Tusheti 4WD & Hiking Tour

Description

Tusheti National Park - Remote Caucasus Adventure Through Georgia’s Medieval Mountain Villages

The 3-day Tusheti 4WD & Hiking Tour takes you to one of the most remote and spectacular mountain regions of Georgia - Tusheti, located in the northeastern part of the country near the Greater Caucasus Mountains.

Accessible only during the summer season via the dramatic Abano Pass road, Tusheti is considered one of Georgia’s most authentic and untouched destinations. The region is famous for its medieval stone villages, defensive towers, alpine landscapes, and centuries-old cultural traditions.

Protected within the Tusheti National Park, the area stretches across dramatic mountain valleys at elevations ranging from approximately 900 m to over 4,800 m above sea level. The national park preserves unique pine forests, alpine meadows, glaciers, endemic plant species, and rare wildlife native to the Caucasus region.

During the tour, travelers will cross the legendary Abano Pass, explore some of Tusheti’s most iconic villages, including Omalo, Shenako, Dartlo, Diklo, and Kvavlo, and enjoy scenic hiking routes through breathtaking mountain landscapes.

Tusheti is one of the best destinations in Georgia for travelers seeking a combination of off-road adventure, authentic mountain culture, remote nature, and easy-to-moderate hiking experiences.

Day 1: Tbilisi - Abano Pass - Keselo Fortress - Omalo

The journey begins early in the morning from Tbilisi toward the remote mountain region of Tusheti. The road gradually climbs through Kakheti and into the dramatic landscapes of the Greater Caucasus, where valleys, cliffs, and alpine scenery replace the lowland terrain.

The drive offers breathtaking views, steep gorges, and a true sense of adventure as the road ascends into the high mountains.

Upon arrival in Upper Omalo, the exploration continues with a short hike to Keselo Fortress. These ancient stone towers rise above the village and offer panoramic views over the Pirikiti and Gometsari valleys, providing a perfect introduction to Tushetian heritage and architecture.
