This 3-day cultural journey takes you through the heart of the region, including its two main towns, Ambrolauri and Oni. Along the way, you will discover serene alpine lakes, dense coniferous forests, historic churches, and panoramic mountain views.

Racha is also famous for its unique wine culture, particularly the renowned Khvanchkara microzone, where centuries-old traditions are still preserved. Combined with the warm hospitality of the Rachvelians and the region’s rich cultural heritage, this experience creates a perfect balance of nature, history, and local lifestyle.

Day 1: Tbilisi - Shaori Lake - Nikortsminda - Ambrolauri

In the early morning, departure from Tbilisi towards the picturesque region of Racha, often referred to as the “Georgian Switzerland” for its serene alpine landscapes and unspoiled nature.

The journey offers a gradual transition into western Georgia, with scenic mountain roads and panoramic views. Along the way, a stop at the beautiful Shaori Reservoir allows time to enjoy one of the region’s most tranquil natural settings.

Continue to Nikortsminda Cathedral, a remarkable example of Georgian Orthodox architecture built in 1010-1014 during the reign of Bagrat III of Georgia. The cathedral is renowned for its intricate stone carvings and well-preserved 17th-century frescoes.

Arrival in Ambrolauri, the administrative center of Racha. Visit the Ambrolauri Museum of Fine Arts, founded in 1965, which showcases regional artworks and cultural heritage.

Free time in the evening to relax and enjoy the region's calm atmosphere.

Day 2: Ambrolauri - Barakoni - Oni - Ghebi - Ambrolauri

After breakfast, departure towards Upper Racha, one of the most remote and visually striking parts of the region, known for its dramatic mountain scenery and authentic highland atmosphere.

The first stop is Barakoni Church, an outstanding example of Georgian domed architecture built in 1753. The church is beautifully located above the Rioni River, surrounded by steep forested slopes and panoramic mountain views.

Continue to Oni, the historical and administrative center of Upper Racha. Here you will visit the Oni Synagogue, built in 1895 and reflecting the region’s rich multicultural heritage.

From Oni, the route continues deeper into the mountains to Ghebi, one of the last permanently inhabited villages in Upper Racha. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, offering spectacular views of Mount Shoda-Kedela and surrounding Caucasus peaks, with a strong sense of remoteness and untouched nature.

After time spent in Ghebi, return towards Ambrolauri through scenic mountain landscapes.

In the evening, arrival in Ambrolauri. Dinner and overnight in the city.

Day 3: Ambrolauri - Tskhrajvari - Tbilisi

After breakfast, departure from Ambrolauri and start of the journey back to Tbilisi through the scenic landscapes of western Georgia. This final day is designed as a relaxed return with one of the most impressive panoramic highlights of the trip.

On the way, stop at Tskhrajvari, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the region. A short ascent leads to a breathtaking panorama over the surrounding valleys and mountain ranges of Racha and Imereti, offering a perfect final impression of the Caucasus landscapes.

After time for photos and enjoying the views, continue the drive towards Tbilisi.
