Khevsureti 4WD & Hiking Tour

Description

Khevsureti - Medieval Fortresses and Alpine Trails in Georgia’s Wild Caucasus

This 3-day Khevsureti 4WD & Hiking Tour explores one of the most remote and historically rich mountain regions of Georgia, located in Mtskheta-Mtianeti in the eastern part of the country. Khevsureti lies along both the northern and southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Range, offering a dramatic combination of deep gorges, high mountain passes, and ancient fortified villages.

The region is traditionally divided by the Caucasus ridge into two parts: Pirikita and Piraketa Khevsureti. Pirikita Khevsureti includes the iconic Shatili and Arkhoti gorges, known for their medieval stone towers and fortress settlements, while Piraketa Khevsureti stretches across the Aragvi Gorge, featuring rugged alpine landscapes and traditional highland culture.

Protected and shaped by centuries of isolation, Khevsureti remains one of the most authentic and untouched regions of Georgia. Stone villages such as Shatili and Mutso preserve unique examples of medieval defensive architecture, while surrounding valleys offer pristine hiking routes, alpine meadows, and panoramic mountain scenery.

During this 3-day journey, travelers will cross remote mountain roads, explore ancient fortified settlements, and experience one of Georgia’s most spectacular hiking highlights - the Abudelauri Lakes trail, featuring three glacial lakes hidden deep in the Caucasus mountains.
